Tick Alert Week - 5-11 May 2008
Tick Alert Week takes place with spring underway and summer approaching. Now is the time of year when we start to get out and about here and abroad and make plans for weekends away and where to go on holiday.
Far many people it will mean visiting glorious countryside in the UK and Europe. And if you enjoy active holidays, adventure sports and outdoor pursuits you are at greater risk of coming into contact with ticks.
Tick Alert Week aims to raise awareness and understanding of the diseases that can be caught from the bite on an infected tick – primarily Lyme disease here in the UK and Tick Borne Encephalitis in Europe.
Pick up one of our campaign leaflets in selected outdoor retailers around the country, and if you’re visiting your GP or heath centre look out for posters with information about tick bite protection.
We’re also conducting Tick Watch. So if you have information from your travels visit the online survey page of the website and tell us your tick spotting tales!
